ISG have worked on a number of other major city-based projects including the City Council House and University of Birmingham’s global campus, and have offices located in central Birmingham. They bring with them a wealth of knowledge and construction expertise and have been working away quietly on site setting up compounds and preparing the building ready for building works to commence. Keep your eyes peeled, as soon scaffold will go up to begin critical roof and façade works, along with a colourful and creative scaffolding wrap designed by Creative intern, Greg McIndoe who took inspiration from the many visual cues in the building to create a series of fun and colourful icons that capture the spirit of Moseley Road Baths.
We continue to be supported by a team of professional consultants including Mace who are providing project management leadership; Donald Insall Associates (lead designer), as well as Max Fordham (mechanical and electrical), Mann Williams (structural engineers) and Artelia (quantity surveying), to name but a few. They have worked diligently over the last two years to build up a carefully considered design that received positive public consultation in 2023 and planning and Listed Building Consent in October last year.
Phase One works will include, among many things, the introduction of a long-awaited café into the Second Class Slipper Baths, reconfiguration of the visitor spaces, especially in the reception areas along with improved welfare facilities. We will be reinforcing the foundations in the basement and making the roofs watertight, installing part one of two air source heat pumps which begin the process of replacing the long lived and now infamous steam boilers. We will also ensure a keen focus on access improvements, including creating permanent level access ramps on entry, and installation of the first of three new lifts to the buildings, with more to follow.
