We’re so pleased to share that “Loop the Loop” has been longlisted for a RIBA Journal MacEwen Award 2024!
The interactive sculpture was created by Intervention Architecture and Dual Works, for Moseley Road Baths as part of our Diving In programming, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.Children and young people from Calthorpe Academy, Balsall Heath CATS and Uffculme School are helping to design a multisensory sculpture for the library for the upcoming ‘Imaginarium’. The interactive sculpture, created by Intervention Architecture, formed the centrepiece for a programme of performances and workshops this year.
Open Theatre, who specialise in non-verbal, physical and inclusive theatre for young people with learning disabilities, led the session. They incorporated music, mime and movement into the workshop, nestled amongst the books in the children’s section. School staff and students alike embraced the opportunity to cheer up ‘sad clowns’ with colourful hats and beanbags. They were then invited to explore a range of objects provided by Intervention Architecture, who observed which textures and shapes were most appealing and could be incorporated into the final sculpture designs.
More information about the making of this project can be read here.
Intervention Architecture collaborated with local children from Uffculme School, Balsall Heath CATS and Calthorpe Academy to develop the sculpture and make it as accessible and engaging as possible. It was then displayed in Balsall Heath Library, becoming the stage for a series of entertaining and inclusive performances by Open Theatre.
Huge congratulations to all the team and project partners!
