Moseley Road Baths and Balsall Heath Library plans

Moseley Road Baths and Balsall Heath Library have been working together to draw up plans to restore and develop both of these beautiful buildings as community spaces thanks to generous funding by Birmingham City Council, Government Levelling Up Fund, National Lottery Heritage Fund and other similar bodies. The Baths and Library are set to undergo a major £32.5m restoration project that will see swimming, health and wellbeing placed at the very heart of this offer.

Balsall Heath Library

We believe that for this to have real value to local residents and organisations we must tap into the expertise and passions of local residents and those who work in our neighbourhood.  We have now reached an important milestone and are delighted to announce that our early restoration and development plans have been drawn up. In the spirit of ongoing conversations with our local residents, baths and library users, as well as the wider Birmingham community, we are opening up our doors to seek feedback, thoughts and responses to these plans.

Project plans will be available to view during normal opening hours at:

Moseley Road Baths – Tuesday 14th March to Sunday 26th March

Balsall Heath Library – Tuesday 14th March to Saturday 25th March.

No pre-booking required, please feel free to visit these venues during their public opening hours.

Please come along and tell us what you think.  There will be opportunity to leave comments, and on most days, members of the project team will be on hand to answer your questions directly.

More information about Donald Insall Associates

Donald Insall Associates is committed to the creative process of looking after historic buildings and places. We begin by considering the requirements of the client and users. Then we examine the history, purpose, materials, construction, aesthetic qualities, setting, use, and condition of the building or place, in order to establish its significance. Each iteration of the conservation or design process is considered in light of these primary considerations.

We seek not only to ‘make good’, but to ‘make better’. This might mean interventions which increase the environmental performance and resilience of historic buildings; ensuring a building or place remains viable by enabling continued or new uses; or undertaking work to enhance the significance of a building or place, and people’s ability to appreciate it. We recognise that adaptation is the key to survival in a changing world.

We are not bound by tradition, nor are we opposed to designing in a traditional manner. Both aesthetics and authenticity are important; interventions should be pleasing to the eye and stimulating to the imagination.
