Hamara Ghar / Amar Ghor: Weaving Workshop by Nilupa Yasmin
Saturday 15th July
To celebrate the opening of the Balsall Heath’s Living Room, join us at of our exhibition Hamara Ghar / Amar Ghor
With  a performance by Ayan Aden followed up by a weaving workshop facilitated by Nilupa Yasmin

Hamara Ghar / Amar Ghor which translates to ‘Our Home’ in Hindi / Urdu / Sylheti is a living room installation inspired by and paying tribute to the local neighbourhood of Balsall Heath. This installation will feature artwork by local artist Nilupa Yasmin which she produced as part of an RND project she undertook with Ort Gallery in 2020 called, ‘Say Something In Your Language’ exploring gratitude and honouring her mother tongue, Bangla. The installation will also feature poetry by local spoken word artist, Ayan Aden who has been commissioned to produce a poem commemorating her neighbourhood of Balsall Heath.

Workshop Description
Inspired by the intercultural prints and patterns of her neighbourhood, heritage and upbringing, Nilupa is interested in using weaving as an art form and examining the utilitarian nature behind its history which marries into the many clothing / fabric stores present on Stratford Road today. Using the prints as featured in the Hamara Ghar / Amar Ghor installation, Nilupa will be facilitating a drop-in paper weaving workshop between 12:30 and 14:30.
