Print and Matter

Print and Matter is an OOMK project with support from Amal.

Abeera Kamran, Unaiza Kareem, Anam Zafar, Sofia Niazi, Aisha Akhtar will each be delivering a workshop inspired by their research into the Urdu collection at Balsall Heath Library.  Make connections whilst exploring printmaking and language!

Anam Zafar: The Wor(l)d on the Street
11am-1pm
Design your own high street using multilingual stamps and cut-and-paste buildings inspired by Moseley Road. This is a free collage workshop for all ages. @anam.zafar.art

Sofia Niazi: Recipe Zine Planning Workshop
1-3pm
Would you like to make a family/friends recipe zine? Using recipe books in the library collection for inspiration, we will consider how to collect, write and illustrate recipes and make a simple zine from them. You do not need to bring anything for the session but you are welcome to bring a recipe. The session will include some drawing. All materials provided. This workshop is suitable for 12+.  @sofia_niazi 

Abeera Kamran: Urdu Typography
3-4pm
Abeera Kamran is a typographic researcher and will be sharing the fascinating and often tense relationship Nastaliq, the style of script popular for writing Urdu has had with technology. She will discuss Urdu’s rich print culture and reflect upon some of the challenges the language faces in a technology driven world. @abeerakamran

Aaisha Akhtar: Radical Potential of Libraries |A Space To Dream Workshop
4-5pm
Join Aaisha Akhtar for a workshop exploring the radical potential of libraries and how they can be used as a space to dream.

Unaiza Karim: Cultural Objects
5-7pm
In this workshop participants will choose  an object to draw which connects to their culture in some way. Participants will be invited to  share some of the words/ stories/ memories embedded in these objects. A range of simple drawing mediums will be provided for sketching. @unaizakarimarts
